How Pilates has helped me

Pilates reminds me everyday of how complex, delicate yet strong our bodies are.
STOTT ® Pilates puts such a great emphasize on having a well balanced muscular system and emphasizes working your deep stabilizers, your core, that my body feels strong from the inside out and all the way around. Pilates has helped me to understand how the body works which has allowed me to take my well being into my own hands. Since I have been practicing Pilates, I have been more pain free each day and have been able to enjoy hobbies like biking, hiking, skiing, pouring heavy glass sculptures and pounding steel a lot more.

My motto is that an Active Body with balanced strength and flexibility is a healthy body.

Personal Background

Born and raised in Düsseldorf (hometown of Joseph Pilates) Germany, Jana Broecking moved to the States with her mother when she was 16. She earned a Bachelors Degree of Science (Biology and Chemistry) from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks). While finishing up her degree she worked as a Fitness Instructor and started woodworking and metal fabrication classes. Jana fell in love with woodworking and worked in the field until 2005 while continuing to teach fitness.

Soon she decided that she wanted to grow further with her teachings due to increased back problems. She enrolled into an extensive Pilates Training Program (STOTT) through Body Center Studios, in Seattle. Since 2006 she has completed 200 hours of Stott Instructor training in Pilates Mat, Reformer, Chair and Cadillac and over a 100 observation and practice hours. Jana is a Certified Stott Pilates Instructor who enjoys improving on her education by attending private sessions herself, workshops and doing observation hours with Physical Therapists.

In her spare time Jana is a teachers assistant for hot glass casting at Pratt Fine Arts Center and continues to weld sculptural and functional pieces  whenever the time allows. She has donated her work to auctions at Pratt Fine Arts Center and Pilchuck Glass School.  Jana enjoys the outdoors during all seasons. She is a certified Level 3 Ski Instructor and teaches at Snoqualmie Pass during the winter weekends. Jana loves fresh air and working with her hands and she will try to be an Active Body and encourage others to be Active Bodies for as long as she can.

Instructor Tonya

Tonya discovered Pilates 12 years ago and instantly fell in love with it.  Prior to Pilates, she sometimes experienced back pain and tension due to degeneration in her spine caused by accidents.  Pilates strengthened her core, restored her spine, and improved her flexibility and posture.  She truly believes in the restorative benefits of Pilates.

Tonya is certified in mat and standing Pilates through The PhysicalMind Institute and Balanced Body equipment trained. She has been teaching for eight years and is also an ACE Personal Trainer.  As an exercise enthusiast, in addition to Pilates, Tonya also participates in Aerial Arts, hiking, running, snowboarding, resistance training, and kick boxing.

Current favorite quote: "Life is not about weathering the storm.  It's about learning to dance in the rain!"
